Factors which influence hospital doctors’ Advance Care Plan adherence
Journal of Pain and Symptom Management Dec 19, 2019
Craig DP, et al. - Researchers sought for the factors associated with hospital doctors adhering to adult patients’ Advance Care Plans (ACPs) via reviewing the available research on this topic. The final analysis included 27 publications. As per results, doctors thought ACPs as potentially useful as these provide useful patient information that enables doctors to make appropriate treatment decisions. However, their adherence has been associated with their attributes (eg specialty, seniority), attitudes towards ACP (eg applicability), and legal knowledge. Often limitations to ACP applicability are perceived due to legal requirements or uncertainty of patient outcome goals.
