Factors related to lymph node sampling at the time of surgery in children, adolescents, and young adults with unilateral non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma
Journal of Pediatric Urology Mar 01, 2019
Saltzman AF, et al. - Researchers examined data from 2,857 patients under 30 years old with non-metastatic, unilateral renal cell carcinoma (RCC) managed with surgery to evaluate factors correlated with lymph node (LN) sampling (protocol adherence) in pediatric, adolescent, and young adult (PAYA) patients with RCC. Researchers determined that 87.8% of subjects were Nx, 9.7% N0, and 2.4% N1. They observed an association of older age with lower likelihood of LN sampling. A correlation was also recorded between higher institutional volume, stage 3 tumors, pre-operative clinical node involvement, tumor size >10 cm, and radical nephrectomy and candidates undergoing LN sampling.
