Factors influencing Raynaud condition score diary outcomes in systemic sclerosis
The Journal of Rheumatology Oct 05, 2019
Pauling JD, et al. - Individuals with systemic sclerosis (SSc; n = 107) were recruited at UK and US sites in order to study the relative impact of a range of putative factors influencing the patient-reported evaluation of SSc-Raynaud phenomenon (RP) severity. Important connections between Raynaud Condition Score (RCS) diary variables and both catastrophizing and coping maneuverings were found. Notable relations between RCS diary outcomes and both environmental temperature and season of recruitment were observed. The strongest independent predictors of the RCS were patient RP visual analog scale (VAS), Scleroderma Health Assessment Questionnaire (SHAQ) pain VAS, and SHAQ gastrointestinal VAS subscales. Patient-reported evaluation of SSc-RP severity was correlated with a number of factors such as pain, catastrophizing, and coping mechanisms. The impacts of seasonal differences in environmental temperature on the SSc-RP burden had indications for clinical trial design. The burden of SSc-RP could be decreased by treatments targeting SSc-RP pain and the development of behavioral interventions enhancing coping approaches.
