Vaccine Sep 26, 2019
Lin Y, Lin Z, He F, et al. - Researchers interrogated female undergraduate students in China, via an online cross-sectional survey, regarding their intention to receive the HPV vaccine and their acceptability of 2-, 4- and 9-valent HPV vaccines (2vHPV, 4vHPV, and 9vHPV, respectively). The complete responses obtained were 997 in total, of these, intent to obtain the HPV vaccine was reported by 55.2%. High knowledge score, perceived high risk of HPV infection, perception of no serious side effects, and mass media exposure to HPV vaccination information were identified as significant factors exerting impact on intent to obtain HPV vaccination. As for 2vHPV and 4vHPV, willingness to pay was seen in a higher proportion of respondents; 78.6% and 68.0%, respectively, compared with 9vHPV (49.3%). The strongest correlates of acceptability for all the 3 vaccines were socioeconomic status indicators. As far as HPV vaccine uptake is concerned, improvements can be brought about by increasing knowledge and health beliefs as well as by establishing a mass media marketing strategy to improve HPV vaccination. So that undergraduate female students may make informed decisions regarding immunization, the provision of detailed knowledge regarding the various valency vaccine choices to these people is recommended.
