Factors associated with unplanned reoperation after above-knee amputation
JAMA Feb 12, 2019
Edwards JB, et al. - Between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2015, investigators examined a population who underwent 1 or more above-knee amputation (AKA) by the vascular surgery service at 2 hospitals in this retrospective study to assess the risk factors for unplanned reoperation after AKA. They included standard demographics and comorbidities, perioperative data, and postoperative consequences. As adjunctive measures of tissue perfusion (ie, transcutaneous oximetry) were avoided by these centers, they ascertained the level of amputation by clinical examination. They observed unplanned reoperation, a risk factor for enhanced morbidity and hospital readmission after vascular surgery.
