Factors associated with undiagnosed diabetes among adults with diabetes: Results from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL)

Casagrande SS, et al. - Researchers analyzed 3384 subjects and studied the sociodemographic and health factors correlated with undiagnosed diabetes among adults with diabetes in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL). They recorded 37.0% undiagnosed individuals among cases with diabetes through odds ratios (OR). Compared with Mexican heritage, people of Cuban (60%) and South American heritage (91% ) had higher odds of being undiagnosed. Females with no health insurance, people who received no healthcare in the past year, those who were overweight and those with dyslipidemia had higher odds. Subjects with a family history of diabetes and those with hypertension were found with lower odds. Criteria requiring strong efforts to improve diabetes awareness were observed from variation by Hispanic heritage group, sex, and awakening to medical care highlight.
