Factors associated with symptomatic postoperative myocardial infarction after endovascular aneurysm repair
Journal of Vascular Surgery Sep 03, 2019
Yang Y, et al. - In patients who have undergone endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), researchers identified risk factors connected with postoperative myocardial infarction (POMI). Data were acquired from the 2012 to 2015 Participant Use Data File database of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. During this time, all patients (n = 7,702) in the database who had EVAR were identified. Investigators found that the risk of POMI is increased for those who are older, who present with a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, who have pneumonia, who have unplanned intubation, and who have prolonged hospital stay, in patients who undergo EVAR. The risk prediction model showed that the incidence of POMI was 58.3% in the presence of all these risk factors. Patients with POMI are at higher risk of cardiac arrest and death.
