Factors associated with persistent posttraumatic stress disorder among U.S. military service members and veterans
BMC Psychiatry Feb 22, 2018
Armenta RF, et al. - Among U.S. service members and veterans, researchers examined factors associated with persistent posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The most salient risk factors for persistent PTSD were combat experiences and PTSD severity. They recognized that comorbid conditions, including injury/illness, somatic symptoms, and sleep problems, also had a significant role and thus should be addressed during treatment. Findings indicating a high percentage of participants with persistent PTSD supported the necessity for more comprehensive and accessible treatment, especially after separation from the military.
