Factors associated with length of stay in a hospital for men and women aged 85 and over: A quantile regression approach
European Journal of Internal Medicine Feb 28, 2019
Dolja-Gore X, et al. - In this longitudinal cohort study, 3,145 participants in their last year of life were characterized in terms of hospital use to quantify factors correlated with length of stay (LOS) in the hospital for males and females aged 85 years and older. At least 1 hospitalization in their last year of life was seen in 86% of participants, and 60% of them died in the hospital. Among men, poor health behaviors drove the highest LOS. They observed an association of influenza with shorter LOS among older females. They also emphasized other factors related to LOS among women, like where they lived prior to admission to hospital and discharge destination.
