Factors associated with length of stay and 30-day revisits in pediatric acute pancreatitis
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Jul 30, 2018
Gay AC, et al. - Using the Pediatric Health Information System database, researchers performed a multicenter, retrospective cohort study to determine factors associated with length of stay (LOS) and 30-day hospital revisit for patients hospitalized with acute pancreatitis (AP). Findings revealed that certain demographic and clinical factors, including gender, ethnicity, and type of complex chronic condition (CCC), were independently correlated with LOS and risk of 30-day hospital revisit for pediatric AP. For both longer LOS and hospital revisit when admitted with AP, children with malignant and gastrointestinal CCCs who require total parenteral nutrition were at highest risk. The study findings suggested that these patient populations might benefit from intensive care coordination when hospitalized for AP.
