Factors associated with first thrombosis in patients presenting with obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome in APS Alliance For Clinical Trials & International Networking (APS ACTION) Clinical Database And Repository: A retrospective study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Sep 24, 2018
de Jesús GR, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to determine the subsequent rate of thrombosis among women with obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome (Ob-APS) in a multicenter database of antiphospholipid antibody (aPL)-positive patients, and to assess the clinical utility of adjusted Global Antiphospholipid Syndrome Score (aGAPSS)—a validated tool used to assess the likelihood of developing new thrombosis—in this patient population. Findings showed that thrombosis developed in 63% of Ob-APS women after initial obstetric morbidity; increased risk was evident in correlation with the presence of additional thrombosis risk factors, selected clinical manifestations, and high-risk aPL profile. The researchers noted a higher aGAPSS score at registry entry for women with subsequent thrombosis after Ob-APS, supporting the validity of aGAPSS as a tool to improve risk stratification in aPL-positive women.
