Factors associated with combined do-not-resuscitate and do-not-intubate orders: A retrospective chart review at an urban tertiary care center

Stream S, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of factors associated with combined do-not-resuscitate (DNR)/do-not-intubate (DNI) orders vs isolated DNR orders, as a means of elucidating factors associated with the addition of DNI orders. DNR/DNI orders vs DNR orders alone were noted to be associated with a higher median Charlson Comorbidity Index; older age; malignancy; and female sex. In the last 3 days of life, these were associated with morphine administration; and were negatively associated with use of vasopressors/inotropes. Combined DNR/DNI orders vs DNR orders alone indicated a more strong association with many of the same factors that have been linked to DNR orders. Compared with DNR orders alone, .
