Factors associated with chronic and acute back pain in Wales, a cross-sectional study
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders May 22, 2019
Jonsdottir S, et al. - Using data from a nationwide cross-sectional survey (Welsh Health Survey 2012), researchers performed this secondary analysis to study patterns uniquely related to acute or chronic back pain. According to findings, an increased prevalence of acute back pain was reported in relation to increased body mass index (BMI), mental health score below average, having a degree and being older than 24 years. Subjects with increased deprivation; increased age; female gender; lower educational attainment; higher BMI; poorer mental health score, and a sedentary lifestyle had a higher prevalence of chronic back pain. In this study, factors that were uniquely related to chronic back pain were increased deprivation, female gender, and little exercise.
