Patel ML, et al. – The objective here was to determine the factors related to Indian womenÂs body mass index (BMI) in slum environments, with emphasis on women with tribal status.
Belonging to a scheduled tribe did not correlate with variations in BMI. However, unadjusted rates indicated that tribal status could be worthy of deeper analysis. A double burden of undernutrition and overnutrition was observed, among slum dwellers. Hence, a diverse set of interventions could be needed to improve the health outcomes of these women.
