Factors associated with adenoma detection in propofol-sedated patients
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Apr 10, 2019
Jia H, et al. - Based on pooled data from 2 randomized controlled trials, researchers conducted post hoc multiple logistic regression analyses to evaluate the factors correlated with adenoma detection in propofol-sedated patients. Propofol-sedated subjects (n=510) have been randomized to air insufflation (AI) and water exchange (WE). Multiple logistic regression analyses reveal that age, withdrawal time, indications (screening vs diagnostic), and WE were significantly and independently related to higher adenoma detection rate (ADR). Data reported that WE had some patients with inadequate Boston Bowel Preparation Scale score of <6. By significantly improving colon cleanliness and overall ADR, WE enhanced quality of colonoscopy in propofol-sedated patients. For performance enhancement, colonoscopists with patients under propofol sedation may consider evaluating the WE method.
