Factors associated with acute kidney injury in acute respiratory distress syndrome
Annals of Intensive Care Jul 05, 2019
Panitchote A, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers determined the factors related to the development and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) (n=357). Following ARDS onset, the development of AKI was reported in 244 (68.3%) patients, with stage I AKI, stage II AKI and stage III AKI seen in 60 (24.6%), 66 (27%), and 118 (48.4%), respectively. For stage I AKI, 2 days was the median time of AKI onset, it was 4 days for stage II and III AKI. In ARDS patients, the development of AKI was reported in relation to certain factors including age, a higher severity of illness, a history of diabetes, and acidosis, in this study. Further association of AKI severity with body mass index, history of heart failure, and peak airway pressure was also reported.
