Nijhuis RABO, et al. - Via analyzing data from 75 studies (8 randomized controlled trials, 27 prospective cohort studies, and 40 retrospective studies), researchers examined factors correlated with response to treatment of achalasia. According to this systematic review and meta-analysis, age and manometric subtype to be linked to outcomes of treatment for achalasia. There was inconclusive cumulative evidence of association with chest pain, the severity of symptoms, and lower esophageal sphincter pressure. This information should be used to guide decisions about treatment.
