Factors affecting the effectiveness and safety of submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection for esophageal submucosal tumors originating from the muscularis propria layer

Du C, et al. – This study further determined the effectiveness, safety, and influencing factors especially the types of mucosal incision of submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER) in a larger population. Despite the failure in achieving en bloc resection in 21.3% patients, STER seemed an effective therapy owing to low residual rate and no recurrence rate after piecemeal resection. STER proved safe with no severe adverse events (AEs); however, minor AEs were common. Authors suggested inverted T incision as the optimum entry point.
