Factors affecting phantom limb pain in patients undergoing amputation: Retrospective study
Journal of Anesthesia Jan 06, 2019
Noguchi S, et al. - In this univariate analysis (between April 1, 2013, and October 31, 2017), authors analyzed the medical records of individuals undergoing limb amputation surgery to discover the constituents associated with perioperative phantom limb pain. They observed 50% incidence of phantom limb pain with no variation in relation to the degree of postoperative pain and the types of anesthesia among the candidates. They also noticed an independent association of diabetes mellitus and uncontrollable preoperative pain with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with that of phantom limb pain development.
