The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Oct 31, 2017
Brown DJ, et al. - Comparison of mask leak during non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) with versus without simultaneous application of nasal cannula was performed. In this study, no significant increase in mask leak with the addition of nasal cannula during NPPV was observed. Among patients undergoing NPPV prior to intubation, simultaneous application of nasal cannula with NPPV could be a useful strategy to streamline airway management.
