Extreme hepatic resections for the treatment of advanced hepatoblastoma: Are planned close margins an acceptable approach?
Pediatric Blood & Cancer Sep 28, 2017
Fonseca A, et al. - This research was formulated in order to elucidate the outcome of children with hepatoblastoma (HB) who were initially deemed unresectable and underwent complex hepatectomy with planned close margins, and ultimately avoided orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Good outcomes without OLT were reported in patients with advanced HB treated with complex surgical resections with positive or close negative margins. Planned positive or close microscopic margins were recommended in highly selected HB patients, as these could spare the morbidity of OLT and present as an alternative for those ineligible for OLT. The significance of a multidisciplinary team was outlined in this study, which specialized in the management of liver tumors.
