External stenting and disease progression in vein grafts 1 year after open surgical repair of popliteal artery aneurysm
Journal of Vascular Surgery Feb 18, 2021
Ciftci U, Marti R, Fahrni J, et al. - Researchers conducted a single-center retrospective analysis evaluating the safety of external stenting and its med-term effect on vein graft disease after open popliteal artery aneurysms (PAA) repair. Between December 2017 to September 2019, open surgical repair with externally stented saphenous vein grafts was performed in 12 consecutive patients with PAA. Aneurysm ligation and bypass grafting were performed in 11 patients and aneurysm exclusion and interposition of a venous segment were done to treat one patient. Duplex ultrasound surveillance in these 12 patients demonstrated 100% primary patency rate at 6 and 12 months with no evidence of vein graft stenosis or aneurysm. Findings thereby support the feasibility and safety of performing external stenting of vein grafts in open PAA repair with achievement of good primary patency at 1 year.
