Extent of lymphadenectomy and postoperative major complications among women with endometrial cancer treated with minimally invasive surgery
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dec 07, 2018
Polan RM, et al. - Researchers assessed the incidence of major postoperative complications (as defined by the Clavien-Dindo scale) experienced by endometrial cancer patients undergoing total laparoscopic hysterectomy with traditional lymphadenectomy vs sentinel or no lymphadenectomy. They used current procedural terminology (CPT) and international classification of diseases (ICD) codes to identify patients with endometrial cancer who underwent total laparoscopic hysterectomy recorded in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database 2015-2016. Findings suggest that among these patients, sentinel lymphadenectomy was associated with a reduced incidence of major postoperative complication and a necessity for readmission when compared with traditional lymphadenectomy.
