Extent of liver resection is associated with incomplete liver restoration and splenomegaly a long period after liver resection
Surgery Apr 29, 2020
Nam NH, Taura K, Kimura Y, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the clinical significance and risk factors for incomplete liver restoration after partial hepatectomy, which is defined by a liver volume restoration of less than 100% of the original volume. Patients who underwent hepatic resection for liver tumors at the Kyoto University Hospital between January 2011 and October 2015 and survived without recurrence for more than 3 years were assessed in this retrospective analysis. Observations revealed correlation of performing an extensive resection of the liver parenchyma with an increased risk for incomplete liver restoration and splenomegaly long after hepatectomy, which in turn linked with the clinical consequences of hypoalbuminemia and thrombocytopenia.
