Expression of PD-L1, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase and the immune microenvironment in gastric adenocarcinoma

Histopathology Jun 09, 2018

Patil PA, et al. - In gastric adenocarcinomas, the relationship between crucial players of the immune microenvironment and clinicopathological parameters were analyzed. It was observed that programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) was expressed in a large share of gastric carcinomas, inferring that therapy targeting this pathway could be beneficial to many patients. Findings revealed that PD-L1 expression and mismatch repair protein-deficiency were linked with increased tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and larger tumor size, highlighting their role in tumor biology. In addition, higher stromal indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase expression was correlated with better prognosis. In gastric adenocarcinomas, immune modulators WARS and GBP5 were highly expressed and suggesting a key role in tumor pathobiology.
