Expression of biomarkers in AKT pathway correlated with malignancy and recurrence in phyllodes tumors of the breast
Histopathology Nov 07, 2018
Li J, et al. - Experts evaluated the expression of four biomarkers in PI3K/AKT pathway alteration in phyllodes tumors (PT) of the breast (PTEN, INPP4B, PI3KCA and pAKT) in 134 PTs by immunohistochemistry. Findings suggested a probable correlation of the alterations in AKT pathway activation with malignant transformation and recurrence in PT. According to results, there was an association of low epithelial INPP4B/PTEN expression with shorter RFS. The researchers noted a crucial part of the pathway in the biological behavior and progression of PT. They also noted the value of assessing the expression of this pathway in the diagnosis, grading, prognostication, and management.
