Exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in utero and early elementary school outcomes
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Jun 02, 2018
Kragholm K, et al. - Associations of in utero selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) exposure with special education needs and delayed elementary school start were explored. In this population-based case-cohort study performed using Danish nationwide birth and prescription registry data from 2005 to 2008, researchers identified 117,475 first-incident non-multiple pregnancy births. Among these, 3,314 SSRI-exposed and 3,536 unexposed non-multiple pregnancy births were noted. Association of in utero SSRI exposure (in all three trimesters) with delayed elementary school start but not with special education needs was noted.
