Exploring the role of regional anesthesia in the treatment of the burn-injured patient: A narrative review of current literature
Clinical Journal of Pain Mar 14, 2019
Town CJ, et al. - Researchers performed this review to evaluate the efficacy of regional anesthesia (RA), specifically peripheral nerve blocks, in the treatment of burn pain. In addition, they sought the clinical indications and contraindications for peripheral nerve block application, along with discussing evidence-based analgesic strategies for providing improved, comprehensive burn pain management. Searching CINAHL, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and SCOPUS, they assessed 10 results that met criteria. Outcomes suggest worldwide use of RA techniques as an adjunct therapy to improve patient pain outcomes and reduce the adverse effects associated with general anesthetic. This review supports the safety and efficacy of RA for acute pain resulting from burn-acquired injury.
