Exploring the predictive ability of dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein for adverse outcomes in Emergency Department patients with sepsis: A preliminary investigation
Shock Nov 01, 2017
Guirgis FW, et al. - Researchers performed this study on sepsis patients admitted to Emergency Department (ED), to test the presumption that dysfunctional high density lipoprotein (Dys-HDL) may predict adverse outcomes and correlate with inflammatory cytokines in sepsis. Findings demonstrated that increasing Dys-HDL concentrations in the first 48 h of sepsis were related to an ongoing inflammatory response and adverse clinical outcomes. In this patient population, early changes in HDL inflammatory index (HII) may serve as a potential biomarker.
