Explorative investigation of whole-lesion histogram MRI metrics for differentiating uterine leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas
American Journal of Roentgenology Mar 24, 2018
Gerges L, et al. - In order to differentiate between uterine leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas, experts undertook a scrutiny of the utility of texture analysis of multiple MRI sequences. It was deduced that T2-weighted images provided the highest, and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps the lowest performance for such a differentiation. Furthermore, it was observed that the metrics reflecting percentiles from the bottom half of the histogram distribution outperformed the standard mean. A particularly high diagnostic performance was yielded via models combining the T2-weighted imaging whole-lesion metrics and patient age. Obtained results demonstrated implications for facilitating improved treatment selection for these 2 entities.
