Expectant management of retained products of conception following abortion: A retrospective cohort study
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Mar 09, 2021
Wada Y, Takahashi H, Suzuki H, et al. - Researchers sought to clarify the natural history of retained products of conception (RPOC) after abortion at less than 22 weeks of gestation, and those who show major bleeding during course observation. Via retrospectively reviewing 640 patients who had spontaneous or artificial abortion at less than 22 weeks of gestation, they included 54 patients with RPOC. RPOC incidence of 6.7% was recorded. Findings revealed that almost 80% of patients with RPOC following abortion had successful expectant management. Patients with heavy bleeding at abortion and RPOC hypervascularity required additional interventions.
