Expanding endoscopic treatment strategies for pancreatic leaks following pancreato-duodenectomy: A single centre experience
Surgical Endoscopy Mar 14, 2021
Mutignani M, Bonato G, Dioscoridi L, et al. - Researchers sought to describe different endoscopic techniques used to treat clinically relevant pancreatic leaks of jejunal-pancreatic anastomosis after pancreato-duodenectomy (PD). They conducted a retrospective, single centre, study reviewing all patients undergoing endoscopic treatment for pancreatic leaks following PD between January 1 2013 and May 31, 2019 at their centre. Among 13 identified patients, 5 patients were treated with “Yoyo stent insertion”, 3 with nose-to-collection drain placement and four patients underwent triple-stent insertion; in only one patient intrapancreatic SEMS insertion was conducted. Overall technical success of 100% and clinical success of 83.3% were recorded. These outcomes affirm that endoscopic management of POPF following pancreatoduodenectomy management is safe and efficacious. In this clinical scenario, endoscopy should play a key role.
