Exercise training during pregnancy reduces circulating insulin levels in overweight/obese women postpartum: Secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial (the ETIP trial)
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Jan 12, 2018
Garnæs KK, et al. - This work was performed primarily to examine if supervised exercise training during pregnancy could diminish postpartum weight retention (PPWR) three months after delivery in overweight and obese women. Moreover, circulating markers of cardiometabolic health, body composition, blood pressure, and physical activity level were also measured. During pregnancy among overweight/obese women, offering supervised exercise training did not affect PPWR three months after delivery. However, it reduced circulating insulin levels. This might be because of a higher proportion of women being active postpartum in the exercise group.
