Exercise training and reproductive outcomes in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: A pilot randomized controlled trial

Clinical Endocrinology Mar 03, 2021

Benham JL, Booth JE, Corenblum B, et al. - Via performing a pilot randomized controlled trial, researchers sought to determine how reproductive, anthropometric and cardiometabolic outcomes in polycystic ovary syndrome are affected by high‐intensity interval training (HIIT), continuous aerobic exercise training (CAET), and no‐exercise control. They performed randomization of 47 women to no‐exercise control (n = 17), HIIT (n = 16), or CAET (n = 14). They encountered feasibility challenges with adherence daily ovulation assessment limiting the ability to determine the influence of the exercise interventions on ovulation. Outcomes support effectiveness of both CAET and HIIT at improving anthropometrics and some cardiometabolic health markers.
