Exercise on quality of life and cancer-related fatigue for lymphoma survivors: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Supportive Care in Cancer Oct 26, 2019
Liu L, et al. - In adults suffering from lymphoma, how exercise can influence the quality of life and other health outcomes, was investigated through a systematic review of the evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and by performing a meta-analysis. Researchers identified six eligible publications from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and MEDLINE. The studies that were RCTs, and reported health consequences of exercise intervention for lymphoma patients or survivors, vs non-exercise or wait-list control groups, were analyzed. The exercise interventions implemented were short term. Findings are not suggestive of the benefits of short-term exercises on quality of life and other psychosocial outcomes. In the subgroup analysis, a possible greater benefit of physical activity combined with mental exercise in lymphoma patients was suggested, however, this finding needs to be confirmed in further investigations. Owing to the baseline variation, completion efficiency of the intervention process, and high heterogeneity, exercising caution is recommended while interpreting this result.
