Exercise lowers threshold and increases severity, but wheat-dependent, exercise-induced anaphylaxis can be elicited at rest
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Mar 17, 2018
Christensen MJ, et al. - This inquiry was set up to establish a standardized challenge method for the diagnosis of wheat-dependent, exercise-induced anaphylaxis (WDEIA). Researchers also inquired if exercise is an essential trigger factor or alternatively an augmentation factor able to lower threshold and increase severity. Findings demonstrated the safety of a challenge test with gluten at rest and combined exercise for confirming WDEIA. Although a reaction could be elicited at rest (without exercise), exercise was able to lower the threshold and increase the severity.
