Examining the relationship between lymph node harvest and survival in patients undergoing colectomy for colon adenocarcinoma
Surgery Aug 10, 2019
Trepanier M, et al. - From the National Cancer Database, researchers evaluated 261,423 patients undergoing colectomy for nonmetastatic colon adenocarcinoma to investigate how lymph node yield is correlated with overall survival in these patients. They grouped patients as follows: < 12, 12 to 23, and ≥ 24 nodes. Colorectal cancer patients across all N stages with lymph node harvest ≥ 24 nodes showed improved survival. The data offers indirect evidence supporting a more extensive lymphadenectomy for colon cancer.
