Examining the associations of sexual minority stressors and past-year depression with overeating and binge eating in a diverse community sample of sexual minority women
Eating Behaviours Aug 19, 2021
Ancheta AJ, Caceres BA, Zollweg SS, et al. - Findings from a diverse, community-based sample of sexual minority women (SMW) suggest that it is important to screen SMW for stigma consciousness as a correlate of overeating and to consider racial and ethnic disparities in overeating and binge eating in this population.
Greater odds of overeating were observed in correlation with stigma consciousness among Latina sexual minority women (SMW) relative to White SMW and African American SMW.
Depression did not explain relationships between stigma consciousness with overeating.
Neither discrimination nor internalized homophobia linked with overeating or binge eating.
