Examining the association between television usage and ADHD: An analysis from the 2016 National Survey of Children’s Health
Annals of Epidemiology Aug 31, 2018
Webber A, et al. - Using data from the 2016 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH), researchers investigated the association between the number of hours spent watching television and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis. They separately analyzed two age groups, 6-11 and 12-17 year olds. They also performed bivariate and multivariable regression using survey data procedures in SAS V9.4. They observed an increased risk for ADHD in relation to television usage. Significantly higher odds of having ADHD diagnosis were observed in children who spent 3 hours or 4 or more hours watching television per day vs in children who did not watch television every day. Findings call for monitoring the use of television by children.
