Examining outcomes in cases of elderly patients who fell from ground level at home with normal vital signs at the scene: An analysis of the National Trauma Data Bank
The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Aug 31, 2019
Ahmed N, et al. - Researchers examined the influence of a higher level of care on the outcomes of elderly patients who fell from ground level at home and had a normal physiological examination at the scene. From the 2012 to 2014 National Trauma Data Bank data sets, they assessed data of 40,800 patients [aged: 65 years and older, with normal physiological measures at the scene (Glasgow Coma Scale score = 15, systolic blood pressure > 90 and < 160 mm Hg, heart rate ≥ 60 and ≤ 100)]. The analysis revealed no significant survival benefits or shortened time to hospital discharge in correlation to higher levels of care; however, a necessity for follow-up services after discharge was identified in a significantly higher proportion of patients from lesser-care facilities.
