Examining food addiction and acculturation among a Hispanic bariatric surgery–seeking participant group
Obesity Surgery Mar 07, 2019
Lawson JL, et al. - Researchers studied food addiction (FA) and acculturation among 444 (n = 215 English-speaking; n = 229 Spanish-speaking) Hispanic adults who were seeking bariatric surgery. These adults were made to complete established self-report measures examining food addiction and acculturation. This bariatric surgery–seeking Hispanic patient group displayed FA rate similar to rates reported among bariatric candidates of varying ethnic backgrounds. The results suggest that FA symptom expression is correlated with acculturation in the USA.
