Examined and positive lymph nodes counts and lymph nodes ratio are associated with survival in major salivary gland cancer
Head & Neck Mar 28, 2019
Elhusseiny KM, et al. - Data from major salivary gland cancer (SGC) cases (diagnosed between 1988 and 2011 from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program) were studied to assess the prognostic ability of examined dissected lymph nodes (ELNs), negative LNs (NLNs), and positive (metastatic) LNs (PLNs) counts along with LN ratio (LNR = PLNs/ELNs×100) in SGC patients. Researchers included 5,446 individuals with major SGC, most of whom (84.61%) had parotid gland cancer. Worse survival was linked with >18 ELNs, >4 PLNs, and >33.33% LNR. Worse survival was also correlated with older age, male sex, grade IV, distant stage, unmarried subjects, submandibular gland cancer, and those who received chemotherapy (not surgery).
