Evolution in the risk of cataract surgical complications among patients exposed to tamsulosin

Campbell RJ, et al. - Between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2013, male candidates of age 66 years and older undergoing cataract surgery in Ontario, Canada, were assessed to evaluate the incidence of cataract surgical adverse event among cases exposed to tamsulosin [associated with intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS)]. They evaluated 4 adverse events: posterior capsule rupture, dropped lens fragments, retinal detachment, and suspected endophthalmitis. Overall, they observed a reduction in the risk of surgical adverse experiences over time.
