Evidence of a causal relationship between body mass index and psoriasis: A mendelian randomization study
PLoS Medicine Feb 06, 2019
Budu-Aggrey A, et al. - Considering reports suggesting a correlation of psoriasis with obesity, researchers investigated a possible causal relationship between body mass index (BMI) and psoriasis using the mendelian randomization (MR) approach. Upon analyzing data for a total of 753,421 individuals from two of the largest population-based studies available, as well as published genome-wide association studies, they found a contributory role of obesity to the pathogenesis of psoriasis, indicating possible mechanistic relationships. Findings, thus, supported prioritizing therapies and lifestyle interventions aimed at controlling weight for the prevention or treatment of this common skin disease.
