Evaluation of treatments for Bartholin’s cyst or abscess: A systematic review
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Feb 08, 2020
Illingworth BJG, et al. - Researchers investigated whether surgical interventions are effective and safe for treating symptomatic Bartholin’s cyst or abscess. Bibliographical databases from inception to April 2019 yielded eight trials, reporting data from 699 women, for inclusion. On considering the recurrence of symptomatic Bartholin’s cyst or abscess, comparison of marsupialization with incision, drainage, and insertion of a Word catheter yielded consistent evidence with notable effects in either direction. Evidence gained does not favor any single surgical intervention for the management of symptomatic cyst or abscess of the Bartholin’s gland.
