Evaluation of treatment response differences in schizophrenia
JAMA Jun 08, 2019
Winkelbeiner S, et al. - Through a meta-analysis of 52 double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials with 15,360 patients, the contributors assessed the differences in response to treatment with antipsychotic drugs. In a simulated randomized control trial with adults who were diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, the variability was slightly lower in the antipsychotic treatment group vs the placebo group. No personal element of the response to antipsychotic drugs increased the outcome variance. Although the response to treatment of subsets of patients may still vary, the average treatment effect can be assumed to apply to the individual patient.
