Evaluation of the effectiveness of cinnamon oil soft capsule in patients with functional dyspepsia: A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial
Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine May 17, 2021
Zobeiri M, Parvizi F, Shahpiri Z, et al. - Researchers conducted this double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial to test the safety and effectiveness of cinnamon oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) in patients with functional dyspepsia. For 6 weeks, 64 patients with symptomatic functional dyspepsia were randomly assigned to receive cinnamon oil soft capsule (n = 29) or sesame oil soft capsule as placebo (n = 35). After 6 weeks of therapy, the cinnamon oil and placebo groups had significantly lower total dyspepsia scores than the baseline at the endpoint. In terms of the baseline and endpoint values of the outcome variables, however, there was no substantial difference between the cinnamon oil and placebo groups. The gastrointestinal symptom score improved significantly in both the treatment and placebo groups in this study.
