Weber CD, et al. - Authors assessed the sport-specific injury patterns and mechanisms, to characterize individuals at risk. They also evaluated possible approaches for prevention. Young male athletes are predominantly affected by extreme and contact sports-related major injuries. The risk of debilitating and lethal head injuries was especially noted in skaters. Their risk behavior could be modified by the individuals recognizing sport-specific hazards. A significant rate of spinal injuries in airborne activities and in climbing accidents was caused by high falls.
