Evaluation of serum markers for gastric cancer and its precursor diseases among high incidence and mortality rate of gastric cancer area
Gastric Cancer Jan 07, 2019
Gantuya B, et al. - Considering the significance of early cancer detection and down-staging screening for high-risk patients in Mongolia, researchers sought to validate serum markers for stratifying patients for further management. They performed endoscopy and histological examination to determine high-risk and gastric cancer patients ,and conducted rapid urease, culture, histological tests to diagnose Helicobacter pylori infection. Study participants included 752 non-cancer and 50 consecutive gastric cancer patients. They found that to predict high-risk patients, the serum diagnosis using pepsinogen (PG) I/II < 3.1 cut-off value is a valuable marker for population-based massive screening. To diagnose H. pylori infection, the best cut-off point was anti-H. pylori IgG > 8 U/mL.
