Evaluation of selective laser trabeculoplasty as an intraocular pressure lowering option
Acta Ophthalmologica Nov 09, 2019
Belitsky Y, et al. - Given that selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is one of the many treatment options for lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients, researchers assessed the impact of SLT in this analysis. They obtained data from records of 289 patients who had SLT treatment (180° of trabecular meshwork) during 2014 and 2015 at the Department of Ophthalmology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Mölndal, Sweden. In addition, baseline features and information from a follow-up within 100 days were recorded. Both exfoliative glaucoma patients and primary open-angle glaucoma patients demonstrated a decrease in mean IOP. There was no significant difference between these two subtypes before treatment or at the first follow-up. Data reported that 52% was the success rate at follow-up (within 100 days). SLT was an effective treatment option for lowering IOP for many glaucoma patients. It has also been effective for several subtypes of glaucoma. Following treatment with SLT, however, not all patients experienced a significant decrease in IOP, and some may require additional care.
